About Pure Goat Company – Who We Are
It all started with Frank, the founder of Pure Goat Company. He had a clear mission: to create an organic follow-on formula based on goat’s milk. With years of experience in the food industry, Frank knew the ins and outs of procurement and production. But one thing was still missing: a solid recipe for organic goat follow-on milk.
That’s when he turned to Rogier van Anholt. With a PhD in biology and over 12 years of experience as a researcher and developer in the (baby) food sector, Rogier was the perfect partner. Still, it took him more than two years (!) to fully develop the organic goat formula. Because yes – being a pioneer takes time. But he worked on it with dedication. Out of love for his little boy, for goats, and for Mother Nature. The rest is history. Pure Goat Company is growing steadily, but one thing always comes first: respect for the world around us.
Our Organic Follow-on Formula
Pure Goat Company’s organic follow-on formula is made from full-fat organic goat’s milk. We add extra lactose, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil, and algae-based DHA*. Essential nutrients such as iron, vitamins, and minerals* are also included. And to top it off, we add organic GOS fibre derived from milk.
The composition of follow-on formula is partly regulated by law: certain ingredients are mandatory, while others – like GOS fibre – may be added optionally. All nutrients in our formula, except GOS, are legally required. And that’s a good thing. As a brand, however, you do have a choice in the source of those nutrients. We consciously choose a formula without maltodextrin, palm oil, other tropical oils, or fish oil.

Legislation
Our portfolio consists of three products for different age groups. This is important for communication purposes, as legislation and regulations relating to marketing and communication distinguish between different age groups.
Pure Goat Company's Complete Infant Formula 1: intended for babies from birth to 6 months old. This is known as “complete infant formula” and serves as an alternative to breast milk when breastfeeding is not an option.
Pure Goat Company's Follow-on Milk 2: intended for young children aged 6-12 months, when other foods are also being introduced. This is known as “complementary infant formula” or “follow-on infant formula.”
Pure Goat Company's Follow-on Milk 3: intended for young children from 10 months to 3 years of age in combination with other foods. Due to specific legislation, the indication from 10 months has been chosen; as a result, the same legislation and rules apply to our Follow-on Milk 3 as to Follow-on Milk 2.
Regulations
The marketing of infant formula is subject to strict regulations. We strive to comply with the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes. This Code was established to prevent companies from promoting artificial infant formula as a substitute for breast milk.
This Code applies primarily, but not exclusively, to the very cautious communication of Complete Infant Formula 1 (0-6 months). Because Pure Goat Company's Follow-on Formula 2 and 3 are primarily intended for use as supplementary nutrition, communication about Follow-on Formula 2 and 3 is (slightly) less restricted.
Do's
- Full infant formula 1 may only be advertised in specialized publications in the field of baby care and in scientific channels, and only if it concerns factual and scientific information.
- Follow-on formula 2 and 3 may be advertised if it is made explicitly clear that it is food for young children from 6 months of age.
- Communication materials must, where possible, include a clearly legible statement that breastfeeding is best for the baby.
- Websites must display the following statement (or something similar) before consumers can click through to information: “Breastfeeding is the best nutrition for your baby.”
Don'ts
- The suggestion that formula is preferable to breastfeeding must be avoided.
- Statements that our goat milk products are “equal to” or “better than” breastfeeding are not permitted
- Any direct comparison with breastfeeding should be avoided, i.e., do not use descriptions such as “more similar to,” “also found in breast milk,” based on breast milk, “equal to breast milk”
- Photos/images of young babies (0-6 months) are not permitted on packaging or in other advertising (rule of thumb: children must be able to sit independently; therefore, do not depict babies lying down)
- Images/pack shots of Full Infant Formula 1 may not be used for advertising purposes.
