There are many tactics to influence consumers' online buying behavior. Not everything is allowed. And when does online seduction turn into deception? In the guidebook 'Protecting the online Consumer' the ACM makes clear how they apply the consumer rules to online influence. In addition to the ACM guidelines, the AFM has also drawn up rules for comparators who provide advice. As of 1 January 2013 there is a ban on commission and from that moment on, comparators may no longer compare funeral insurance premiums on the basis of an important personal detail, namely the date of birth. The legal prohibition of commission came about in order to make financial services fairer and more transparent.

Since the legal prohibition, we have seen the funeral insurance comparators market in particular slowly change. The products of funeral insurers are not always the same, making it increasingly difficult for comparators to make a fair and above all clear comparison.

To minimize own interpretation, the ACM came up with a number of guidelines. The guidelines leave a lot of room for personal interpretation. We want to minimize this by means of the affiliate guidelines. The affiliate guidelines originate from the ACM and AFM.
The affiliate guidelines consist of three components. A description has been formulated for each guideline so that it is clearer for affiliates what they have to adhere to. If the affiliate does not comply with the guidelines, then the decision may be made to terminate participation in the affiliate program (of all participating funeral insurers).

Only together can we ensure that consumers make a good choice at all times based on reliable, honest and complete information.


1. Complete, accurate & understandable communication

* Indicate how the price/comparison was arrived at (calibration data, type of insurance, amount insured, payment period/maturity and additional costs)
* Update/check premium amounts regularly
Display only correct information. Booking-like "almost on" techniques are not allowed.
* Make sure the information is written in clear and understandable language for your target group. For example, avoid (legal) jargon, double negations, tangent constructions and ambiguous words.
Information about the earnings model should be communicated on the website.
* The website should give a good picture of the offer (minimum of 5 parties). Use of a filter option is allowed.

* Look for the insurance cards on the website of the insurers.

2. Honest communication & design

* Only call a product or service 'free' if it is true. In addition, misleading and frightening texts such as lowest premium, most selected and/or high debts, while this is not the case, are not allowed.
* When collecting reviews there should be an honest and natural flow in it. If you pay the consumer to write a review, then this should be clearly stated on the page.
* Terms such as "most chosen" and "best rated" must be based on truth. If in doubt, the affiliate must be able to prove this through research and/or statistics.
* A clear menu and logical comparison is required. Clear distinction between sponsored promotion positions & filtered ranking based on, for example, premium amount, customer rating or type of funeral insurance.

3. Fair comparison

* Static comparison based on logical combination (not someone aged 18 with a child or someone aged 74 with a child).
* Not comparing apples to oranges. For example, compare cash insurance with in-kind package insurance (services and products) or use different insured amounts per provider.

Compliance with the guidelines is monitored by the advertisers. Any feedback is communicated through Daisycon.
