De eerste Next-winkel, opgericht door J Hepworth & Son, werd in 1982 in Engeland geopend. De winkel werd snel populair en had tegen het einde van hetzelfde jaar 70 winkels. De missie was simpel: kleding produceren op het scherpst van de snede.
